Hi,
I'm Nigel Slater the photographer, not the celebrity chef! This is a photograph
of me at one of my country estates, although the more educated amomg you may
recognise it has having more connections with the former Queen Mother than
me.
I was born at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary in Lancaster, Lancashire, and I have lived in the town of Carnforth, known for its railway and the classic romantic film Brief Encounter, all my life. I attended North Road County Primary School, then Carnforth Secondary School before moving to Morecambe High School to study A levels and then continued my education at Blackpool College of Art and Technology. Afer that I secured a job as a junior photographer with the Visitor newspaper in Morecambe. In my early years here I continued my photographic studies at Richmond College, Sheffield, successfully completing the NCTJ proficiency in photography.
The Visitor, Morecambe was a family owned firm until 1986 when United Provincial Newspapers, owners of the papers rival, the Lancaster Guardian bought the company. It was subsequently sold to Regional Independent Media and again to the current owners Johnston Press. As for me, I moved my way upwards and onwards through the ranks to my present position of Chief Photographer
